Meet Dr. Stanley Kopelow
Specializing in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous, Dr. Stanley Kopelow is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has practiced for over 30 years. Dr. Kopelow trained at the Jules Stein Eye Institute and worked as a full-time faculty member. During this time, he helped train and teach residents and fellows about diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. Following his teaching career at Jules Stein Eye Institute, Dr. Kopelow started at a private practice in the San Fernando Valley. Currently, he still maintains his affiliation with Jules Stein Eye Institute as an associate clinical professor of ophthalmology. Additionally, Dr. Kopelow continues to help conduct research projects for various eye conditions. He served as co-investigator of the National Collaborative Diabetic Retinopathy Study and worked as the lead investigator for the Early Treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy. These studies established the current guidelines for laser treatment and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Kopelow continues to receive recognition for his service in the industry, and he holds multiple "Super Doctor" titles, including in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Education
Dr. Kopelow graduated from the University of California Irvine School of Medicine and completed an internship at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Following his school and internship, he attended his residency at UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Kopelow specializes in diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. With over 30 years of experience, he can diagnose diabetic retinopathy and create a treatment plan that manages symptoms and prevents them from becoming worse. He also helps treat other diseases or conditions associated with the retina and vitreous, including retinal tears and detachments. To help with these conditions, Dr. Kopelow has extensive experience performing advanced surgical procedures, such as retinal injections, scleral buckle surgery, and vitrectomy.
Personal
Throughout his career, Dr. Kopelow has written over 35 scientific papers on diabetic eye disease and given numerous lectures and presentations at scientific meetings. Currently, his research is limited to the diseases of the retina and vitreous.
